Report on Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) management structures, 1992
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) was the successor body to HIDB. It was established in April 1991 with headquarters in Inverness and the HIDB local area offices were replaced by Local Enterprise Companies (LECs). HIE provided strategic leadership to its network, support services to the LECs and implemented wider Highlands and Islands programmes and major projects.

The Association of Community Enterprises in the Highlands and Islands (ACE-HI) was established in 1986, with HIDB support, to provide support for community enterprises. It offered help and advice and sharing skills and knowledge for community co-operatives and community businesses across the region. It closed in 1996.
